My Stroke – Warning Signs

I thought I had vertigo.  I was dizzy and could not walk straight – I kind of drifted to the  right.  I had to walk on the right side of a hallway so if I fell I had support.  The world  around me turned and spun, but thanks to my acrobatic flying days I just went with it and  said “Wow, That was interesting.”  This went on for two weeks, and I thought is was a virus.
”Just give me some antibiotics and a few days rest,” I said.  WARNING SIGNS !

After two weeks I decided this was more than a virus and I’d better see a doctor.  While  taking my wife to one of her doctors appointment, (Yes I was still driving – It was like a  big real life video game, but I was now cutting corners to the right a little closer) my  wife insisted I stop at the emergency room.  I thought well, it’s no emergency but since I am close…..   They said “We are going to keep you.”

The doctor ran some tests and told me you have had a stroke, and oh by the way has anyone  ever told you that you had a heart murmur?  Well, after 5 days in the hospital I went home  and was told to rest.

As I look back on the events in my life that lead up to this, I had a lot of warning signs.   I started walking a little funny – mostly to the right.  My head was numb like I had not  had enough sleep. There were some chest pains, but I thought they were or indigestion.  When  I was out doing presentations I held onto the front table to steady myself.  When I looked up  I got real light headed when I looked back down. ALL WARNING SIGNS !

I used to listen real close to what my body was telling me, but in this day and age I kinda  got away from that.  Now I am monitoring my body more alertly and taking better care of  myself.  When I ran a health food store people would come in looking for that wonder  herb/vitamin that would recover their health.  I would look at them and let them know they  didn’t get in this condition overnight and so it will not get better overnight – in fact  some things may never return to previous health.  Now I must look into the mirror and give  myself that same talk.  Isn’t that interesting!

“♪SIGNS, SIGNS EVRYWHERE SIGNS♪” Lets all take a closer look at all the signs we run into  today so our tomorrows will not be filled with reconciliations of health, wealth, spirit or  relationships.  Life is GREAT and it’s all about choices – our choices.
